Pilates

Pilates focuses on quality of movement and can benefit all kinds of people, whether you’re looking to tone up, feel stronger and healthier, or become more flexible and nimble. Pilates uses slow and controlled movements that develop your core strength, muscle tone, balance and coordination. It also helps you to improve your posture, increase your flexibility, and feel more relaxed.

These classes are mixed-ability and we use standing and floor-based exercises that combine both traditional and modern Pilates moves with balance and coordination training. I offer multiple options for each exercise and you choose the level that suits your ability. Every session is different and we use equipment such as balls and resistance bands (stretchy elastic bands) to keep the sessions interesting as well as challenging. Sometimes this equipment makes an exercise harder and at other times it makes it easier!

If you have an injury or condition that makes certain exercises difficult for you let me know and I can offer you adaptations to enable you to participate. I also offer Gentle Pilates classes that are great for beginners, people with back pain or other orthopaedic conditions, and for anyone who prefers a lower intensity class.

As well as being safe and effective, exercise should be fun. If you want to do something on a regular basis, you have to enjoy it and my classes are sociable environments with a friendly atmosphere!

"I joined this Pilates group not having a clue what to expect - Sam encourages you to challenge yourself within your own comfort zone, but is never 'judgemental' - you know your own limits! The atmosphere is relaxed, but above all - it's fun!"
