Beginners Tips 02

Focus on how amazing you're going to feel after your workout

You can't expect to feel motivated 100% of the time! On those days you're struggling for motivation focus on how amazing you will feel AFTER your workout and you'll be much more up for it!

Find a workout that you LOVE

This is, in my humble opinion, THE most important tip I can give you!

I cannot stress how much I DO NOT ENJOY WORKING OUT if you ask me to...run, play a team sport, go the the gym, workout oudoors in bad weather or make it competetive.

BUT if you ask me to dance, jump, laugh, be mindful, exercise with lovely people and make it non-competetive I BLOODY LOVE WORKING OUT!

My year 11 PE report read 'Samantha has not participated enough for me to comment!'. Because I used to bunk school when we had PE and go into town to a cafe with my friend! But, once I left school and found that were different ways of exercising like aerobics and step and body conditioning and LBT and all those fantastic group exercise classes (this was pre-Zumba!) I was in love and it became a regular part of my week from about 18 years old!

My point is, find something that keeps you fit that you actually ENJOY and you'll never feel like you're working out again!

Anything is better than nothing!

Even 5 minutes is better than nothing! Try to get moving a little each day, even if it's just a tiny amount! Small amounts build up and creating consistency is a great foundation to build from!

Don't forget the warm-up and cool-down!

The warm-up and cool-down are crucial to help you get the most out of your workout AND to help prevent injury! They don't have to take long and they don't have to be boring! Make sure you include a warm-up and cool-down in EVERY workout you do!

Know your WHY

Have a really clear idea in your mind of WHY you've decided to make the commitment to yourself to get fit. You can't be 100% motivated all of the time, but having a clear idea of why you're doing this can be a massive help on those days when you're feeling a little less energetic!

Plan your workouts in advance

Commit to your workout like you commit to anything else. If you make it a 'maybe now, maybe later' chances are you'll decide 'later' and yet sometimes 'later' never comes. Pop them in your diary like anything else and stick to them!

Be consistent

Consistency is the best habit you can get into at the start of your fitness journey! Consistency is probably the most important thing you need to be if you want to see results! 5 minutes every day is better than 30 minutes once a month! Try to set yourself goals that enable you to be consistent and that you can stick with!
