23rd July 2021 Newsletter
As always, thanks so much for coming to class/subscribing this week!
Want a free mat? Don't get too excited, but I've decided that I will no longer be supplying equipment to people when we return to face-to-face classes. Covid has made me realise how unhygenic this is and going forwards I will be asking everyone to bring their own mat to class. I will still have a few for new people to borrow for their first week. BUT this obviously means I now I have a massive bag of mats and nothing to do with them! So, if anyone wants a free mat then let me know. I'll be giving them away on a first come-first served basis. They're not especially good for face-to-face classes as I don't think they'd survive transporting that many times and they don't roll up, but if you'd like a mat for your home workouts then let me know and I can pass one onto you! They are used, but they haven't been used since March 2020 so I'm pretty sure they're covid free by now!

Return of face-to-face Zumba
I am super pleased and happy to be able to tell you that, all being well, Monday night Zumba will be back at Manorbrook school from September 6th! It's been a long time coming, and obviously nothing is set in absolute stone as regulations etc might change, BUT for now that is the plan! Whoop whoop! I can't wait to see you all in the actual flesh! I'm still working on Thursday nights and am trying to get us back to St Helen's School in September, but they have yet to confirm when this will be possible.
And now a word from out sponsor (only kidding, I don't get any money from this, but you do get money off!)
Recovery massage is performed as soon as possible following an exercise in order to reduce muscle tension, soreness and recovery time. The main benefit of doing this is to reduce the amount of recovery time required, to enable you to train again the following day. The following are also important goals of treatment; Reduce muscular tension Reduce immediate muscle soreness and prevent DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) Prevent injury Promote a state of relaxation Relieve increased muscle tone Exercise causes tiny tears in muscle fibers, causing inflammation as the body gets to work repairing the injured cells. Massage after exercise can reduce the production of compounds called cytokines, which play a critical role in inflammation. Massage also stimulates mitochondria, the tiny powerhouses inside cells that convert glucose into the energy essential for cell function and repair. The bottom line is that there is a suppression of pathways in inflammation and an increase in mitochondrial biogenesis helping the muscle adapt to the demands of increased exercise. We can train more thoroughly and effectively day to day if we use massage as a recovery method after training.
